Financial Literacy improvement of the village women in Sri Lanka

Call for Proposals

Over-indebtedness and multiple borrowing of high-interest loans are burning issues among the majority of village women in Sri Lanka which caused suicide, depression, family disputes, sexual bribery, malnutrition of children due to unregulated microfinance industry and its malpractices. Moreover, lower financial literacy of the villagers intensified these issues.

In this context due to the high need aroused from the community, the NGO Secretariat started a national program on financial literacy improvement apart from the implementation of the Microfinance Act No 06 of 2016 as a parallel program. The NGO Secretariat already trained all the Grama Niladari’s of Polonnaruwa, Monaragala, Ampara, Kaluthara districts and programs are planned to carry out in other districts for field level officers and village women. However, due to the high need of this program and wider coverage required at the village level, it is identified that further involvement from civil society organizations and private sector is highly essential to implement this program at divisional secretariat level in Sri Lanka as it will help effectively implement this program in many districts within a shorter period.

Therefore the NGO Secretariat hereby call proposals from the NGOs and companies who would like to engage in deploying programs in financial literacy improvement and entrepreneurship skills development of village women in Sri Lanka. Necessary guidance and material content support will be given by the NGO Secretariat. Further support will be given form district level to identify needy people and divisional level locations to carry out your programs through the district microfinance coordinators at the district secretariats to arrange your programs easily. Resource persons also can be arranged at your request.

Further, we will provide you an acknowledgment as a stakeholder of the NGO Secretariat in implementation of this important national program as a national requirement to uplift the living condition of village women who are currently facing many difficulties in their lives due to microfinance debt trap. This program will improve their financial literacy to engage effectively in income generation and saving. The acknowledgment will support your organization to secure the necessary funding from donor agencies to deploy these programs at the divisional level.

Therefore interested organizations, companies or any other parties are requested to send us a letter confirming their interest with a proposal on financial literacy improvement and entrepreneurship skills development of village women in Sri Lanka. Below shows the email addresses.
